In case you're on a journey for extreme speed and convenience, then scouring the classifieds for a McLaren F1 remains a truly decent choice. In 1998 it set a creation auto world record for its 242.8mph top speed, and there are still very few autos around that will beat it. The record was accomplished at VW's test track in Germany, which brags a straight that is almost six miles in length. Beat speed was achieved with the F1's 672bhp, 6.1-liter BMW V12 turning at 8,300rpm, in spite of the fact that it was constrained for street use at 7,500rpm.
It merits recollecting as well, that the Gordon Murray planned McLaren F1 achieved its top speed with a regularly suctioned motor – everything that has gone speedier since has required no less than a couple of turbochargers.
